A first contract toward a monthly supply agreement of up to 500 kg puts another plasma-atomized Ti-6Al-4V source into the LPBF powder market — through a distributor channel, not the usual OEM feedstock route.
What changed
PyroGenesis announced its first commercial order toward a new titanium powder supply agreement with a U.S. materials distributor. The order is for Ti-6Al-4V fine-cut powder (20–80 µm), the size range typically used in laser powder bed fusion, produced by the company's NexGen plasma atomization process. The discussions concern a monthly supply agreement of up to 500 kg; the client has indicated potential requirements up to 1,000 kg per month, but the company states no commitment at that volume has been made. Client identity and contract terms are confidential. The release follows two smaller August 2026 orders from a U.S. additive-manufacturing OEM for coarse-cut Ti-6Al-4V (45–150 µm) for directed energy deposition, the second at US$73,700.
Why this matters
Purchased powder is the largest consumable line in LPBF economics, and per-kg pricing in the market is close to opaque — a point our own powder-evidence page makes. A new plasma-atomized Ti-6Al-4V supply reaching the market through a distributor is a supply-side signal worth watching for availability and pricing leverage, especially for DED and LPBF shops running titanium. Two cautions for buyers: the announced 500–1,000 kg/month figures are a ceiling and an indication, not a contracted volume, and a first commercial order is not a qualified feedstock on your machine — powder qualification (chemistry, recyclability, your parameter set) remains your and your OEM's process.
